The Proposal
Ian proposed to me at the Henry Doorly Zoo on March 8th of this year. I hadn’t been to the zoo in over 10 years, so I was really looking forward to going. It was a perfect little Sunday day date. We went to church in the morning and then got to the Zoo as soon as it opened. It wasn’t very busy when we got there but as the day went on it filled up. His plan was to propose in the aquarium, but it was swarming with people by that time we got inside. His Plan B was to propose in the aquarium gift shop. It definitely caught me off guard and was unexpected, so it was perfect.

Dream Dress
I didn’t have any particular style that I was set on going into dress shopping. I just knew I wanted to feel beautiful on my wedding day. I’m larger chested so it was really important to me that I felt comfortable and confident in my dress.
How did I know it was THE dress? My dress shopping experience was a little atypical. Covid-19 was in full swing and I started to panic because all of the wedding dress shops were closed due to the pandemic. Planning a wedding in under 6 months is already stressful but even more so during a pandemic. Luckily, I heard an Ellynne Bridal commercial on the radio. I called and was ecstatic to learn about the Virtual Appointment process. Both Nichole and Haley from Ellynne Bridal made the process easy peasy. I went through the online gallery and picked my top 30 or so dresses. From there, I scheduled a Zoom call with Nichole, Haley, my Mom and two sisters. After Haley tried on my top 10-13 dresses on the Zoom call, I was able to narrow it down to 5. Those 5 dresses were then shipped to my apartment. It was finally “Try On Day”! I had my Mom, sister, and friend come over to help me while Nichole was on Zoom. My perfect dress ended up being the final and 5th one I tried on! I fell in love with the lace detail and knew it was the one. I ordered it that day! After a few appointments with Kimberly from the Perfect Dress, my dress truly fit like a glove.
Wedding Details
We chose to have our wedding at the country club Ian’s parents belong to here in Omaha. Ian spent a lot of time at the Oak Hills Country Club as a kid, teenager and adult, so it only seemed fitting to have it there. Our ceremony was outdoors, and it was absolutely beautiful. We lucked out and had the most amazing September weather.
Wedding Vision
We wanted our wedding to be very intimate, full of love and about us. We simplified it by not having a wedding party. I mean, does anyone really enjoy being a bridesmaid or groomsmen? Haha. I wanted my sisters to be able to relax, enjoy the day, and wear whatever dresses they wanted!
